Special Membership Meeting  About the Economic Contract on March 22

3/15/2023

The membership of Local 1482 is invited to a special meeting that will take place on Wednesday, March 22.  The only item on the agenda will be the proposed Economic Agreement reached last month between DC37 and the City.  The meeting will start at 7:00 pm and will be held on Zoom.

To have the Zoom login for the meeting emailed to you, you are invited to submit this RSVP form with your name and email address.  The login will be emailed to you on the evening of Tuesday, March 21st.  If you register later in the evening on March 21st or before 5 pm on March 22nd, we will email the login information to you at 5 pm on March 22nd.

President Barber will cover the terms of the Economic Contract at the meeting, the voting process to ratify, and members will be able to ask questions. Members are welcome to reach out to Ron Barber or Sylvia Quinones or members of the Executive Board at any time with questions they may have about the contract or completing their ballots.

Envelopes with ratification ballots for the Economic Contract are being mailed to the home addresses of DC37 members, which includes the membership of Local 1482.  Ballots must be received at the American Arbitration Association, the independent organization conducting the contract vote, no later than 9 am on March 31st.  Members of Local 1482 are encouraged to mail in their ballots as soon as they can.

Updates on DC37 Economic Contract

3/12/2023

On February 17, 2023, DC37 announced it had reached an agreement with the City for a 5-year economic contract covering May 26, 2021 to November 6, 2026.  The contract was endorsed by the DC37 Delegate Assembly on February 28.  Ballots will now be mailed to DC37 members to vote on contact, which includes all eligible members of Local 1482 (there are a small number of titles in Local 1482 whose economic bargaining is owned by other unions).

The American Arbitration Association (AAA), an independent organization, is conducting the vote on the contract.  AAA began to mail envelope packages containing ballots to members' home addresses on March 10, and members can expect to receive them by March 17, so check your mailboxes.  Completed ballots need to be received at AAA no later than 9 am on March 31.  Please reach out to Ron Barber, Sylvia Quinones, or any member of the Executive Board if you do not receive a ballot in the mail.

The terms of the economic contract can be found on the DC37 website.  It calls for 3% pay increases in the first four years and 3.25% in the last year. The five-year, five-month and 12-days agreement provides a 16.21% pay increase compounded, including retroactive pay, and a $3,000 signing bonus upon ratification. Retroactive pay kicks in from the first day of the proposed deal.

You can see an estimated amount of retroactive pay you may receive by entering your pre-tax income into DC37's Retroactive Pay Calculator.

Other highlights of the proposed contract include establishing a committee to explore remote work, raising the minimum wage of all DC37 members to $18 an hour, establishing a Child Care Trust Fund, and maintaining premium-free healthcare plans.
