A special meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:00 pm to nominate and elect delegates to represent Local 1482 at this year's AFSCME International Convention. It will be an in-person meeting, and it will be held at the Central Library in the Info Commons Lab. The nominations and election will be the only business conducted.
Please note that there is an error in the agenda printed on the postcards mailed to members about this meeting. There will be no Treasurer's Report, President's Report, or New Business. The only item on the agenda will be nominations and election of four delegates to attend the convention. We regret the error and apologize for it. The next General Membership Meeting will be held virtually on June 6th
About the AFSCME International Convention. The AFSCME Convention is convened every two years. The 2022 convention is being held July 11-15 in Philadelphia. The convention features guest speakers, educational workshops, and networking events. It is an opportunity to meet union members from all over the United States, and learn about empowering union membership.
Local 1482 can send five delegates to the AFSCME Convention. Ron Barber, Local 1482 President, is an automatic delegate. Therefore, the nominations and election at the May 25th meeting will be for the four remaining delegates. Local 1482 covers the costs of attending the Convention, but delegates have to use their own time (Annual Leave, Comp Time, etc) to attend. All delegates attending the convention are required to follow Covid health and safety protocols as defined by AFSCME.
