What follows is the complete text of a handout distributed at the General Membership meeting on October 1, 2013. Contract Between the Brooklyn Public Library and Local 1482
Article V
Scheduling of Employees
F. Work Schedules
2. Public Service
a. Public service staff is defined in this article as clerical and librarian occupational titles who are assigned to public service work at branches, Central Library units/divisions and/or the Business Library.
b. Such staff who work on Saturday will be given priority for having a Scheduled Day Off (SDO) on the following Monday or Friday, or, if the employee so requests another day in that week. However, an employee who works more than two Saturdays in a month, shall then have the option to earn compensatory time in their bank or a scheduled day off at the mutual convenience of the parties.
c. Employees who volunteer or request to work a fixed schedule which includes Saturday are not covered by this provision.

President Eileen Muller's Clarification
"As part of BPL's new branch pairing arrangement, employees will be expected to work every other Saturday at their designated Saturday branch. According to your working conditions contract, when you work on Saturday you will be given priority for having a Scheduled Day Off (SDO) on the following Monday or Friday, or if you so request another day in that week. I have heard that employees are being pressured into taking their SDO's on either Monday or Friday, so I want to stress that you can still ask for an SDO on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Your supervisor is not required to grant such a request, but you have the right to make one. If you feel that the terms of the contract concerning SDO's are not being observed at your work location, please contact me as soon as possible".
